A Boise native, Katherine Jarvis grew up listening to the Boise Philharmonic and is honored to now hold the position of assistant concertmaster. She received performance and music education degrees from the Eastman School of Music (BM) and the University of Minnesota (MM), and has studied under leading professors including Charles Castleman, Lynn Blakeslee, and Sally O’Reilly. An active performer, Kate has played in ensembles throughout the United States as well as in Salzburg, Austria. She enjoys working with a diverse range of musicians and groups, and performs locally with the Boise Phil, Classical Revolution: Boise, 208 Ensemble, and the Boise Baroque Orchestra.

In addition to her performance career, Kate loves working with students in both public school classrooms and in private lessons and maintains a private violin studio with dedicated and creative students of all ages. She has volunteered her time as a strings teacher within the Rochester, NY public schools, has been a mentor for the Greater Twin Cities Youth Symphony in Minneapolis, MN, and has been able to connect with many students throughout schools in the Treasure Valley as a guest teacher.

Kate is delighted to be back in Boise, and when she’s not playing the violin you can find her out enjoying the natural beauty of Idaho with her husband, principal second violin Geoffrey Hill, and their corgi, Finlay.
