AUDITION APPLICATIONS FOR REPERTORY AND STRING ORCHESTRAS ARE NOW OPEN!
Please see below for more information on audition requirements and how to apply!
The Boise Phil Youth Orchestras provide outstanding musical training and experiences to over 250 talented young musicians throughout the Treasure Valley. All four orchestras (Symphony, Concert, Repertory, and Strings Strings) are a joy to hear and be a part of. Under the direction of Music Director Jennifer Drake, our young musicians attend weekly rehearsals, receive professional coaching from Boise Phil orchestra musicians, and perform out in our community throughout the year.
Youth Orchestra Audition Information
We are adding a NEW orchestra this season to better support developing and intermediate string students by providing more tailored instructor for the two different levels of musical development. Read more about our String and Repertory Orchestras below to learn which ensemble might be right for you. If you are unsure as to which group is right for you, don’t worry – students can audition once and be considered for both groups! See audition materials below for more details.
Audition applications for the Repertory and String Orchestras are now open! Please check out audition information below and apply using THIS LINK today! The deadline to pay audition fees and apply is November 19th so make sure to apply now.
Auditions will be held from 4:00pm-8:00pm on December 3, 4, and 10, 2025.
All BPYO participants are required to be members of an appropriate large performing ensemble (band or orchestra) accredited class at their school.
For students on an alternative education path or if the applicant doesn’t have access to a band or orchestra program through their school, a recommendation from a music teacher and experience performing in an ensemble is required (group lessons, community music ensemble, or a public band/orchestra program). We want any type of student to be able to participate in the youth orchestra, so please reach out and ask if you are unsure about eligibility.

Yes! We want to ensure that our student musicians are always practicing and getting better. There is no guarantee that you’ll stay in the orchestra each year. Make sure you prepare your audition as if you weren’t already a member–someone is always practicing more!
