For 50+ years the Boise Philharmonic Master Chorale, made up of 80 auditioned singers, has endeavored to create moving musical experiences that inspire our community through a rich tradition of great choral music and modern musical innovations.
As a program under the Boise Phil umbrella, the Boise Philharmonic Master Chorale strives to build this community by:
- Performing concerts and musical programs of professional quality
- Providing artistic development opportunities to its members and community
- Bringing choral music to new audiences through outreach and education programs
- Initiating creative programming and introducing audiences to music that is difficult to access
In addition to performing with the Phil, the Chorale has also collaborated with other area arts groups including the Boise Baroque Chamber Orchestra, Ballet Idaho, Idaho Dance Theatre, Opera Idaho Children’s Chorus, Treasure Valley Concert Band, Boise State University Symphonic Orchestra, and other local choruses. The Master Chorale has performed numerous times for Boise Music Week and has invited area high school singers to participate as part of an educational outreach effort.
Their inaugural concert was a performance of Handel’s “Messiah” with the Boise Philharmonic Orchestra, a tradition that continues to this day.
AUDITIONS
Auditions will be from 6pm – 9pm on August 12 and August 13, 2026 in the Boise State Music Building, room C125. Auditionees should prepare a song (does not need to be a classical art song, but should showcase your experience, ability, and range). Dr. Hutton will also guide you through some vocalizing, sight singing, and melodic memory.
The upcoming season of the Boise Phil Master Chorale is a busy one with fantastic performance opportunities. A high level of engagement is expected from each singer who joins our ensemble. Membership in the chorus is considered a full season commitment. At minimum, you may participate in half of the season (August-December or January-April). However, participation will not be on a concert-to-concert basis. For example, if you can do only one concert but not the other in August-December, please wait until January to participate.
Retention of membership is contingent upon your consistent attendance at rehearsals and performances. A decision not to fulfill rehearsal and performance obligations (including attendance requirements, see next section), without the approval of the Music Director, may result in the loss of your position or the need to re-audition to remain with the ensemble.

Led by Master Chorale Music Director Richard Hutton.
