Death and the Maiden

"Death and the Maiden” is derived from a Schubert song in which a terror-stricken maiden begs death to pass her by. A masterwork among chamber music, the quartet is an emotional landmark of the Romantic period. Wolf’s Italian Serenade is an expertly written piece for string quartet, though like Schubert, was known for his extensive catalog of songs. This brief work dances and sings with infectious spirit!
