Go on the musical adventure of two friends, Sound and Silence, as they make music for the very first time. Silence, a first-time adventurer, wants to explore the wonders of the quietest galaxy in the universe; however, it does not take long for the wanderer to crash into the unimaginable–Sound! Sound, an intergalactic smuggler of noises, samples sonorities from across the universe and puts on a show that Silence will never forget! The story explores the elements of music: pitch, dynamics, tempo, tone/timbre, rhythm, meter, and articulation, as it guides young listeners to discover along with Sound and Silence.
Inspired by the musical storytelling of Sergei Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf, this ten-week program integrates illustrated stories with music to promote music literacy and guide young musicians to connect music and the imagination.
