The Boise Phil provides secondary educational offerings focused on young musician development and ensemble support through our Conductors in the Classroom program. Other opportunities for secondary education include ticket discounts for school groups and student tickets for individual students of all ages!
Conductors in the Classroom
Conductors of the Boise Phil can be scheduled to visit YOUR ensemble rehearsal and work with the young musicians in the ensemble on a number of areas. Check out the information below to see details on what is possible and how to request your visit!
Schools can request one of three Boise Phil Conductors for a visit.
Conductor in the Classroom visits provide the most benefit to older or more advanced ensembles. However, ensembles at any skill level can gain from having a Conductor visit! During visits, Conductors can focus on one of the following focus areas to be determined by the school ensemble director:
- Conducting & Ensemble Coaching: Rehearsal techniques, ensemble sound, balance, phrasing, rhythm, and musical interpretation.
- String-Specific Instruction: Demonstrations and hands-on coaching in bowing, articulation, tone production, intonation, and other string specific techniques.
- Choral-Specific Instruction: Demonstrations and hands-on coaching in vocal technique, breath support, diction, vowel formation, intonation, blend, balance, ensemble sound, and other choral-specific techniques.
- Clinics & Sectionals: Focused work with orchestras or individual instrument sections to address specific musical and technical needs.
- Teacher Support & Rehearsal Strategies: Practical ideas for improving rehearsal efficiency, diagnosing ensemble problems, and building stronger student musicians.
- Performance Preparation: Guest conducting and coaching for concerts, festivals, assessments, or other special performances.
Availability
Due to limited availabilty of each Conductor, ensembles will be limited to a maximum of 2 total conductor visits per year.
When filling out a request, please be prepared with 3-5 prefered visit dates and times. In the event your prefered Conductor is not available during one of your requested times, we will work to find a time that works for your ensemble and the Conductor.
Scheduling
Conductors are able to visit school ensembles for a maximum of 100 minutes. Depending on your school schedule this allows for a Conductor to work with 1-2 ensembles during their time on campus.
School ensemble directors should have visit expectations prepared at least two weeks prior to the date of the visit. Things to have planned include, which pieces and excerpts will be rehearsed, the rehearsal schedule for the period(s), existing areas for improvement within the ensemble, if the Conductor is running the entire rehearsal or just a portion, or other pertinent details to the visit.
In addition to rehearsal information, ensemble directors should ensure specific information about parking and building entrance instructions are available and that appropriate front office staff are aware the Conductor will be visiting.

Please note: A request for a Conductor does not guarantee a visit will be confirmed. Boise Phil Education Manager, Savannah Butler, will reach out within 3-5 business days after submitting your request with confirmation and/or questions related to your individual request.
Ticket Discounts
Student Groups: A rate of $19 per ticket is available for student groups. One complimentary teacher/chaperone ticket is provided for every 10 student tickets purchased. All group and student group reservations must be made through the Box Office at 208.344.7849 (Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM).
Individual Student Tickets: Students of any age can purchase discounted tickets in advance for most performances. Tickets are $19 (including tax and facility fees) with a valid student ID.
