Join us for “Catching Hope” on Saturday, May 13 for a concert of meaningful works, new and old, which conjure hope across the ages.

Saturday, May 13 at 7:30 pm at NNU’s Brandt Center, Nampa

A Boise Phil Master Chorale concert is a fantastic way to spend an evening. Led by Grant Farmer  (Boise Phil Master Chorale Director) these talented musicians work together to create beautiful music that will leave you feeling delighted and uplifted.

Program:
Adolphus Hailstork: I Will Lift Up Mine Eyes
featuring tenor Terrence Chin-Loy.

A thoughtful interpretation of Psalm 121, with roots in the spiritual/gospel style, Hailstork’s setting of this substantial piece has considerable complexity, unpredictability, and excitement. Terrence Chin-Loy, known for his “beautiful lyric tenor voice” (Opera News), has most recently performed at The Metropolitan Opera, Jazz at Lincoln Center, Lyric Opera of Chicago, North Carolina Symphony, and the Arizona Opera.

Elaine Hagenberg: Illuminare (composed 2021)

Illuminare is Elaine’s first extended work in which she takes us through a season of beauty and goodness that has been disrupted by darkness and confusion. But as Light gradually returns, hope is restored, illuminating our future and guiding us in peace. Elaine Hagenberg’s music “soars with eloquence and ingenuity” (ACDA Choral Journal). Her award-winning compositions are performed worldwide.

Johannes Brahms: Schicksalslied (Song of Destiny)

Brahms created a very personal interpretation on the theme of fate in this timeless piece of music that will shower you with deep and colorful harmonies. Often referred to as his “Little Requiem”, it was written as comfort to the living rather than an act of prayer for the dead, and that hope may be found here on earth.

Kim André Arnesen: Even When He is Silent
The following text was found scratched onto a wall by a Jew hiding in Germany, during World War 2.
I believe in the sun, even when it’s not shining.
I believe in love, even when I feel it not.
I believe in God, even when He is silent.
Arnesen masterfully expresses the sentiment of the text – hope in times of despair.
