Peter Stempe, principal oboe, is originally from Victorville, California, where he started his career as second oboe in the Victor Valley High School Jackrabbit Concert Band. He graduated from California State University, Fresno with a Music Performance degree. He served in Berlin with the 298th Army Band, and then earned a Master’s degree at Hartt School of Music, University of Hartford. His principal teachers were Russell Howland; Bert Lucarelli; and Lothar Koch.

Peter has been a member of the Hartford Symphony, Hartford Chamber Orchestra, New Jersey Symphony, New Orleans Symphony and the Kansas City Philharmonic and has taught at Wesleyan and Tulane Universities. Since 1978 he has been Principal Oboe of Oregon's Sunriver Music. He has soloed with orchestras around the country, performing the concerti of Marcello, Vivaldi, Handel, Strauss, and Vaughan Willliams. Peter is adjunct faculty at Northwest Nazarene University and College of Idaho and has been a Real Estate agent for over 25 years.
