Julia has been a member of the Philharmonic since 2001 after she moved to Idaho from the Seattle area to study with Sam Smith at the College of Idaho. She has a BA in cello performance and a MA in education. She currently enjoys teaching in the West Ada school district in addition to her own private cello studio.

She enjoys living in Boise because of all the interesting musical opportunities to play different genres and styles and has worked with Boise Baroque, Opera Idaho, Ballet Idaho, Boise Cello Collective, Sawtooth Cello Choir, and Silhouette String ensemble.

What other instruments do you play? Piano on a casual basis.

What is your favorite composer/genre? Antonin Dvorak, Ralph Vaughn Williams, Johannes Brahms, and J.S. Bach.

Tell us a little about yourself (hobbies, interests, etc.): Julia enjoys hiking, reading, playing music with friends, and spending time with her family outdoors. She has begun quilting, but is not very good yet.
